SWIMMING POOL is a meandering, often wordless drama about Sarah, a mystery novelist with writer's block who travels to her publisher's South France home, where she meets the daughter from his first marriage. Julie is a hard-edged, sexually free girl who realizes the author is basing her current book on what Julie and her diary reveal about her own life. The two become conspirators in a crime committed by the teen.

To simulate the langour of a restful holiday, long stretches of the story by necessity have a leisurely pace. This can be either soothing to a viewer or an annoyance, depending on one's temperament. I found it a challenge to stay awake at times.
