This DVD was filmed live on May 10th 2005 at the Masonic Temple Ballroom in St. John's, NL, Canada. REPUBLIC? AT THE MASONIC TEMPLE was produced by the band and they have captured in excellent sound and picture the band's exclusive performance in the band's home town. For those who haven't heard of sHEAVY, a good reference point would be Black Sabbath and 70's metal / hard rock. Attendance for this performance was by invitation only and was limited to approximately 80 people. The band was setup in the ballroom of the Masonic Temple. There was no stage, just the drums and amps on the floor surrounded by a few racks from which lighting and Republic Of Newfoundland flags were hung. When the band took to the floor everyone crowded around in a semicircle forming an intimate environment in which to see the band. The band performed several classic sHEAVY songs along with all songs from the band's forthcoming album, "REPUBLIC?" (except for the album's instrumental "Moments of Silence" which is used in the production but not performed.)

I have been a SHEAVY fan for five years now and I would not have discovered this band if it had not been for a little investigation on the web. This band is so far under the radar that it is sad. Yes they have the moniker of being a long lost early Sabbath reincarnation, but they do it so well with their originals that this should be a testimony to how truly kickass Sabbath really was and that this music should live on! Fact of the matter is SHEAVY is so tight LIVE that this is the main reason you should go out and discover all of this bands discography! I also have the limited edition version of "The Machine That Won The War" which has a DVD included as well. Actually the live performances on this one are a bit more impressive than what is delivered here. One note to mention about a previous review about Steve Hennessey's stage presence. He is the most energetic person in the whole band in this performance and the fact that he pours his heart out and feels the music should not be a fault on his part. Not to detract on the band performance, which is truly spectacular. The only sad part of this DVD is that the crowd surrounding this tiny event are such wallflowers that they are either super-stoned or it takes a s***load of activity to get them excited. If I was at this concert, I would be bouncing off the walls revelating in the excitement how true these guys are to their craft. SHEAVY LIVE ON!!
