When he was young, Gordon Bombay (Emilio Estevez) used to play hockey but when he blows a really big game, he quits. Now thirty, he's a lawyer who doesn't know anything about fair play or teamwork. When he gets arrested for drunken driving, he has to perform community service. And not just any community service, he has to coach hockey to kids! His team consists of Charlie Conway (Joshua Jackson), Greg Goldberg (Shaun Weiss), Dave Averman (Matt Doherty), Peter (J.D. Daniels), Gee Germaine (Garette Ratliff Henson), Jesse Hall (Brandon Quintin Adams), Connie Moreau (Marguerite Moreau), Dave Karp (Aaron Schwartz), and Terry Hall (Jussie Smollett). And they are an AWFUL team! Bombay hates the kids and doesn't try hard to coach them, and so of course the kids don't respect or like him at all. Will they ever be able to work as a team with Coach Bombay acting like the good coach he should be? And will they have enough time to make it to the finals against unbeatable team, Hawks? Also starring is Hans (Joss Ackland), Mr. Ducksworth (Josef Sommer), Fulton Reed (Elden Henson), Tammy (Jane Plank), and Tommy (Danny Tamberelli), Coach Reilly (Lane Smith), and Adam Banks (Vincent Larusso).Great movie entertainment! I just love the whole Mighty Ducks trilogy! They teach great values about trust, teamwork, fair play, and as Coach Bombay used to say, 'all that other junk'. It's also very, VERY hilarious! Some parts you can just die laughing, for example when the kids get in trouble from the principal and are put under detention. The hockey games are pretty suspenseful and fun, too!But there is a reason for the PG rating for this movie. Mostly it's because of language which at times is pretty bad. Also the kids in the movie are pretty naughty at times. I think the movie is best aimed for kids maybe 10 and up, great for adults, too.Then of course there are the other two "Mighty Ducks" films. "D2: The Mighty Ducks" have Bombay again coaching the Ducks, this time there are going up against the world as Team USA! Some of the hockey players aren't in this movie, but they get some new teammates. In my opinion (though it's a very hard choice), this movie is the best of all three. "D3: The Mighty Ducks" has the Ducks getting a scholarship for Eden Hall academy. Their main adversary are the Warriors, the varsity team of Eden Hall. If you liked the first "Mighty Ducks", I highly recommend the next two sequels! I sincerely hope that Disney will have the whole trilogy on DVD soon! MACARIO Review

A sadly neglected masterpiece from 1960, this black and white gem is one of my favorites. This wonderful tale, based on Bruno Traven's short story, directed and with a screenplay by Roberto Galvedon, has an attractive cast (Pina Pellicer is exquisite)and is beautifully acted.This film is so simple, yet profound, and it satisfies because it's so well written. I love the scene with Death in the candlelit cave, it's magical.Give this film 91 minutes of your time, and it will reward you...and thank you amazon.com for making this rare film available to the world. Movie - Eva [Japan BD] SHBR-137 Review

...less effective somehow? Well I was expecting something *more* about this EVA (yep, the name is also symbolic LOL!) even if I knew it to be the 1st film from this director: it's been successful at festivals & it's also unusual to have a film like that made in Spain, since it probably looks more "British" (plus it features Daniel Bruhl, always a guarantee), but hey anyway it's been a nice movie to have around for a change.
It's more a sort of psychological thriller-melodrama than a real sci-fi movie in my opinion: despite the beautiful Swiss landscape, good cast & the ambitious idea beneath it, regarding what robots might become around 2040, I think it lacks pace & in a certain way "answers" as well to the questions it rises. (Besides the director's vintage choice of creating a clone of the '70/80ies for the WHOLE visual look, from glasses to cigarettes, with Bowie's music! it quite bothered me because seemed really filmed in the past instead of in a futuristic era, not even in Prometheus or new Star Wars movies they did it like that, even if they had more "issues" trying to link the look of the older films to the new ones of their franchises).

The special effects are good, they seem realistic, but again, it's a film that focuses more on the (soapy) drama of the relationships (but without grounding it to a solid background, which is all off-screen) rather than pure sci-fi: personally i.e. I didn't care as much as the director for the difficult set into the snow as a symbol for "something else", he should have developed instead the theme more clearly at least for me to truly feel it. Eva's little actress Claudia, for 1st time on screen is perfect, she's got such a natural charm "la nina", the film would have been lost without her for sure.
But if you also add that the basic idea isn't so original after all, & that I did see coming the "surprise" early on (Americans did the "children-robot's tale" in previous films as A.I., & somehow also Frankenstein told at the core a similar plot), then I'd have wanted something deeper, especially a longer film to explain what happens after the inevitable climax. Rethinking to Scott's similar approach, Blade Runner did have regardless that *poetic spark* missed here.

PS_The dvd is a special edition with 2 discs, 1 has the film in Catalan or Spanish (Castellano) with English subtitles only, plus the director's commentary (only Spanish without any subtitles), the other disc contains the usual backstage things but also the deleted scenes (without subs) of the flashbacks that would have helped to flesh it out more the plot (the 1 about the past of the 3 protagonists is 22 min. long), & last but not least, the alternative finale, that would have changed the whole impact of it (for the record, I still prefer the official 1).

I rented this, thinking, hoping, that I would get 'some' sort of NEW insight. A new tidbit of knowledge I didn't already know. But, I was just re-hashed with what I already knew. To me, that was a letdown. But to a new spectator, it is put together real nice, and fast. With no wasted time on frivolous stuff. So it still gets 4 stars from me.

In Concert: Long John Baldry Review

John passed July21 05 . this DVD was from a 1993 German TV Show ,and I picked it up recently . I was not disappointed . He hits the stage with a top notch Gypsy -looking band; I would imagine they are his Canadian band .. and launches into 'Everyday I Have The Blues' which segues into one of his theme songs Jimmy Witherspoon's 'Money's Getting Cheaper' AKA 'Times Gettin Tougher Than Tough' . Mid way through the set , John plays some acoustic 12 string . The show is recorded well . camera work is very good too . Johns vocal could be a bit further forward in the mix , but it's OK .I would have liked to see him break down into a smaller line up or perform solo with the 12string .. It would have lended better to the dynamics of the show , but I am nitpicking . So sad he is gone .He was one of the greats . all blues /blues rock fans should see this . a classy show .Great playing from the very talented band who double a lot on various instruments .
